don’t.
Cast on 16 stitches with long-tail cast on. Leave a 20” tail.
For a plain ornament, start with a purl row and do 48 rows of stockinette.
For a beaded ornament:
Row 1 (and all odd-numbered rows): Purl.
Row 2: *K3, slip bead, P1,* repeat from * to * to end.
Row 4: K1, slip bead, P1, *K3, slip bead, P1,* repeat from * to ,
end K2.
Repeat above pattern for 48 stockinette rows (you will have used up all 96 beads).
Graft jacket around ball using modified Kitchner stitch. Drawstring the
ends tightly. Decorate to your heart's content!
