Crooked River Knitting Guild Newsletter

August 2010

Regular meetings are the 4th Tuesday of every month except December.  Meetings begin at 7:00 pm.  Knitters of every skill and level are welcome, as well as those who would like to learn.

Please note that meetings will no longer be held at the Renaissance!!  Meetings are held at the North Olmsted United Methodist Church on Dover Center Road, near Lorain Road, N. Olmsted, OH.  (Look for the large green water tower).  There is plenty of parking in the back.  We are in Rooms 6 and 7.  Please use the back (Office) door, not the side one!!

Next Meeting: August 24, 2010

Intro to Continental Knitting with guest instructor Margaret Halas

Please bring worsted yarn and appropriate sized needles as well as two stitch markers, preferably in different colors.

UPCOMING GUILD PROGRAMS

September – Intarsia/Fair Isle a lecture/discussion lead by Jean Nicholls

October – Knitter’s Hand, Arm and Elbow Injuries with guest instructor Chris Jordan

November – Christmas Party

We originally planned to have one meeting set aside for charity knitting. Since we have programs scheduled for the balance of the year, I believe that during the September and October if you want to knit while the program is going on I would like to suggest that it be for charity.  We will have yarn and patterns available.  The items made will be collected and given to the Mitten Tree that the church has at Christmas time.

MEMBERSHIP:

WELCOME to our new member, Royanne Miller, who has so graciously accepted the task of handling our door prize items till they are gone.  Royanne is a friend of Marion DeBrosse.  Thanks, Marion, for your help in bringing a new member to the guild.

Remember for your efforts, Marion's and anyone else's, you will be rewarded with a $5 Panera gift card.

At meetings, please remember to sign in and take a raffle ticket for the monthly drawing.  There is a separate sign in sheet for visitors.  Please make sure any guests sign in as well.

Our Guild is chapter #187 of The Knitting Guild Association.  Members are encouraged, but not required, to join. The dues for TKGA are $30.00 a year, $54.00 for two years, and include a years’ subscription to Cast-On Magazine, and mailings about National and Regional meetings; and they offer a master knitter program for hand and machine knitters.   If you are interested contact the TKGA at www.TKGA.com or call 1-740-452-4541.

Knit-bits from the President:

As you may or may not know, we are not paying anything to use the church’s facilities for our meetings.  They help stock a food pantry in North Olmsted.  As a way to say Thank You for the use of their facility, the board is asking each member to bring an item to each meeting to help them stock the food pantry.  Each month the church collects different items.  In August, they are collecting breakfast items that ARE NOT cereal.  To plan ahead, September’s collection will be for toiletry items, i.e. toothpaste, deodorant and in October they will be collecting paper products, i.e. paper towels, napkins, tissues and also, school supplies.  That is the list for now.  We will let you know what future months are as they become available.

Just a reminder (for those of you who have not paid yet), dues are now due.  They are $15 and checks can be made payable to CRKG.  Cash will, also, be accepted at the meeting.

HERITAGE DAYS

Grand Pacific Junction in Olmsted Township will be holding their Heritage Days August 19 – 22.  We have been asked by Yarn Knit by Sue if we would like to participate.  After further consideration, Friday is not as good a day as we thought.  We have changed the date we will be there to Sunday, August 22 from noon – 4.  Hopefully some of you who could not make it on Friday can come and help us on Sunday.  We ill be teaching people how to knit and telling them about the Guild.  Materials to teach people to knit will be supplied by Yarn Knit by Sue.  We will have information on the Guild to pas out as well.  If need be, we will be able to respite from the heat (if it is to warm) or rain (if we should be so lucky) in the downstairs of Yarn Knit by Sue.  Or out on their back patio which is somewhat protected.

The hours for Heritage Days are:

Thursday, August 19 6PM – 10PM

Friday, August 20  10AM – 10PM

Saturday, August 21  10AM – 10PM

Sunday, August 22  11AM – 6PM
